LAVENDER, JOHNSON

JOHN S. LAVENDER was born in Illinois,
February 25th, l855, and died in
the Methodist Hospital in Des Moines,
February 22nd, l9l6, his death
being the result of an operation for an
ailment of long standing. His
father died when he was a child and his
mother, with her family, moved
to Iowa many years ago, settling in Decatur
County.
He grew to manhood in this county and was
married to CHRISTINA JOHNSON,
January 2, l88l. They continued to reside in
this locality where he
followed farming and blacksmithing. In l887
they moved to Des Moines
where he engaged in railroading. He
subsequently lived in Dallas
County, Iowa, Labette County, Kansas, Nemaha,
Nebraska, Wyoming, St.
Joseph, Mo. Several months ago he returned
to Leon and here his wife
died October 25th, l9l5.

He was the father of two boys: IRA, of
Webster City, Iowa and GEORGE, of
Wyoming, also he had three grandchildren. He
was a man of fearless
disposition, strong convictions, and
unfaltering principle when he
believed a thing to be right he advocated it.
He has been a member of
the Odd Fellows for many years. The funeral
was at the Brethren Church
in Leon Saturday, February 26th, conducted by
F.A. Garber, assisted by
J.F. Burton. The interment was at High
Point.
