MRS. NORA BATHE MORRIS, one of the early
school teachers of this
community, passed away at her home Thursday,
February l7, l9l6. MRS.
MORRIS underwent an operation two years ago
and had never enjoyed good
health since. She was taken to her bed in
January. With the aid of
five different doctors, nothing could be done
for her recovery.

She was born near Decatur City, Decatur
County, Iowa, August 24, l866.
On February l9th, she was united in marriage
to CHAS. M. MORRIS, of Des
Moines. To this union were born two sons,
LELAND and DONALD. she also
leaves to mourn her loss, her father, J.R.
BATHE, of Lenapah, Oklahoma,
her two sisters, MRS. CHARLES T. RHODES, of
Lamoni, and MRS. CARRIE
SHEPHERD, of Pueblo, Colorado. Her three
brothers, MR. IRVIN BATHE, of
Lamoni, Ia., MR. AVON BATHE, Lenapah,
Oklahoma, and MR. CHAS. W. BATHE,
of Caney, Kansas. Those present at the
funeral were IRVIN BATHE, of
Lamoni, MRS. CARRIE SHEPHERD, of Pueblo,
Colorado.

MRS. MORRIS attained her higher education in
Des Moines. She attended
the Capital City Commercial College for three
years and was a very
efficient bookkeeper at Younker's Department
Store, at the time of her
marriage. She was a member of the Christian
Church since early
girlhood. Sister MORRIS also had many
friends while here and also
leaves many at her home which was shown by
the floral tributes. The
last impression of her grave was a bed of
flowers. Following is a
tribute that was read at the funeral by a
former pastor.

'AN APPRECIATION'

MRS. NORA MORRIS--with what tenderness and
holy memories we pronounce
the name. A synonym of the highest and
holiest in the words--"Woman and
Mother."

As a woman, she was quiet, unobtrusive,
humble, but never a mere
presence to view the activities about her
with curious gaze, much less a
self-conscious observer, wondering if
attention were fixed upon her.

What a rare paradox of virtues found home in
her soul.. Self forgetful,
she was a leader of unique strength. Timid
and retiring, she made her
associates resourceful and aggressive. Slow
to intrude into other
lives, she worked a confidence that made her
the mother confessor to
troubled hearts, giving the last full measure
of devotion
to others. Her own cup of strength was so
filled by her Master that it
was difficult for others to give her
anything.

As a wife and mother, what shall we say? The
realm is too sacred and
the queen who ruled in it by love too
beautiful in grace of character
for outsiders to even venture
characterization or praise. Silent
adoration but bespeaks the poverty of
language. A wistful reverence
steals over us as we think of the gracious
personality of her who moved
among us in the days that come not again.
Howbeit, she will not need to
come again. She still lives with us, calling
us to the unfinished work
which she so noble began. Surely we will not
be deaf
to her mute appeal to complete the task to
which she gave her all. She
sleeps not among these fragrant flowers. She
stands in the hall of
fame, not in chiselled marble, but in good
deeds, a martyr to the cause
of our Christ. We are lonely, but she holds
sweet converse with those
of blessed memory gone on before with dear
MRS. RIST, and winsome MRS.
IRELAND and the great family of our own of
like precious faith.

And Thou, Love's Lord, wilt not forget her
due reward. Bless her on
earth and in Heaven. Affectionately, her
former Pastor,

--G.B. VAN
ARSDALL.
