Decatur County Journal
Thursday, March 26, l9l6

LYDIA MARGARET STARKEY was born at Sycamore,
DeKalb County, Illinois,
January lst, l84l, and died at her home near
Decatur, Iowa, March llth,
l9l6, aged 75 years, 2 months and l0 days.

When a young girl, she, with her parents,
moved to Davis City, Iowa,
where she was married to WM. K. CASH, July
27th, l857. To this union
were born nine children: MRS. J.R. CASH, of
Bonesteel, South Dakota;
MRS. J.S. SPRINGER, MRS. B.M. RUSSELL, MRS.
S.A. MEEK, WINFIELD, FRED
and JOHN CASH, residing in this county.
These with her husband; are all
living and were all present at the funeral.
She is also survived by
three sisters and one brother, eighteen
grandchildren and six great
grandchildren.

In her early married life she and her husband
became affiliated with the
United Brethren Church and established a
Christian home in which they
reared their family. Hers was one of the
early pioneer homes of the
county and from it hospitality was extended
to all. No wayfarer was
ever turned away until he had been warmed and
fed. She was truly one of
the builders of the community. Her influence
circled from her own
fireside. She was a devoted wife and mother,
a kind and helpful
neighbor, sparing not herself, but laboring
for others, a source of
strength and comfort in times of need.

Her health had been failing for many months
and all that anxious loving
care could do was done, but, as was her habit
in active days to finish
her work and lie down to rest in the evening,
so she finished her life's
work and in the evening peacefully and
beautifully passed to her last
sleep. The funeral services were conducted
by Rev. Partridge, of
Lamoni. Her favorite song, "The Home Over
There," was sung. The body
was taken to its last resting place on the
home farm by her own sons,
followed by a large company of friends and
relatives.
We sorrow but our hope is bright.
