Decatur County Journal
Leon, Decatur County, Iowa
September 25, 1890
DIED -- Of consumption, at Greely, Colorado, Wade Switzer, of Grand River, Iowa, September 19, 1890, at the age of 21 years, 10 months and 22 days.
Wade Switzter was born near Westerville, October 27, 1868; lived at home all his life except one year. For about three years he has been suffering from consumption, and last January, a year ago, he went west for his health. He returned home in April and stayed two months, then went to Greely, Colorado, where he remained until his death.
Shortly before his death, he expressed a desire to see mother. He asked Mrs. Dunbar to pray that he might be spared until her arrival. The mother started from Grand River last Thursday, but his spirit had taken its departure before she arrived.
Wade has always been a good and upright child. He was loved by all who knew him. Wherever he went he made good friends and left a good impression in the hearts of all. Before his death, he surrendered to God, saying, "if it is His will, I am ready to go", and was very happy. The body was embalmed and brought home to Grand River by his mother and brother. The funeral took place at the Presbyterian Church, Grand River, and was largely attended. The bereaved parents and the rest of the family bore their cross bravely.
May the blessing and comfort of God rest and abide with them always. The funeral was conducted by Rev. M. E. Barakat.
