JAMES H. STOVER was born at Clarksburg, West Virginia, April l9, l85l,
and departed this life at his home in Hamilton Township, Decatur County,
Iowa, June ll, l903, aged 52 years, l month and 22 days.
The subject of this sketch had been in poor health for some time with
heart disease, and this, together with other internal complication,
caused his untimely death. His parents, REV. JACOB and MRS. ELIZABETH
STOVER, moved to Ohio when he was quite young and here he was reared to
manhood. December l3, l877, he was united in marriage to MISS CAROLINE
C. HILL. To this union were born twelve children, all living except
one, who died in infancy. The family came to Iowa in November, l885,
and have since been residents of this county.
He was converted in early life and since coming to Iowa has been a
member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. For many years MR. STOVER has
been a devoted member of the Leon Lodges, I.O.O.F. and K. of P.
He was very much devoted to his family and was always ready to make some
sacrifice for their advancement along moral and intellectual lines. His
suffering was intense and through it all he was patient and often
expressed a willingness to go.
Funeral services were conducted in the Leon M.E. Church Sunday, June l4,
by Rev. I.N. Woodward. Interment was made in the Leon Cemetery with
I.O.O.F. in charge of the ceremonies.
