DIED -- May 24, 1889, at his former residence near Van Wert, after a protracted illness, JOSEPH KINSMAN STARR.
BRO. STARR was born in Coply; Summit County, Ohio, December 4, 1818. Was married to LORETTA P. CHAPMAN July 4, 1839. Emigrated to Iowa and settled in Washington County in 1854. Moved to Lee County in 1856 and to Decatur County about the year 1869, where he has lived until death.
BROTHER STARR united with the Lost Creek Congregation of the Church of Christ in 1857, of which he continued a consistent member until death.
He was the father of ten children, all of whom are still living, eight of whom were in attendance at the funeral. BRO. STARR's first wife died in 1879. He was again united in marriage to MRS. JANE LEE July 4, 1886. The latter still survives him.
BRO. STARR being a member of the Christian Church, it was of course desired that a minister of that church should conduct the funeral services, but as no minister of that church was of convenient distance, the writer was requested to conduct the services, which he did at the Christian Church at Van Wert Sabbath, May 26, at 11 a.m. The house was filled with sorrowing friends and neighbors.
During the writer's acquaintance with deceased, about 19 years, he has always been regarded as a good citizen and Christian gentleman. He died in peace, in hope of the resurrection of the just.
