CHARLES LUTZ, a resident of Leon for many
years, but who moved with his
son, HARRY, and family to Billings, Montana
about three years ago,
passed away at that place February ll, l9l6,
at the age of 83 years.
About two months ago he began to decline in
health. He was taken sick
on January l5th. He did not suffer much pain
and passed peacefully away
on February llth. The remains were taken to
Benkelman, Nebraska, for
burial. He is survived by an aged companion,
three sons, ROBERT and
JOHN, of Nebraska, HARRY, of Billings,
Montana, and two daughters, MRS.
MAY KING, of Omaha, Nebraska; and MRS. NANNIE
CUNDY, of Fedora, South
Dakota; and one brother, BEN LUTZ, of
Benkelman, Nebraska.

OBITUARY

CHARLES M. LUTZ, son of DAVID and KATHERINE
LUTZ, was born at Cookstown,
Pennsylvania, July 26th, l833, and died at
the home of his son, HARRY,
at Billings, Montana, Monday, February ll,
l9l6, at l0:50 a.m. at the
age of 82 years, 7 months and ll days. He
died with a complication of
diseases.

He was united in marriage to ELIZABETH WAGEL,
April 26th, l855. To this
union were born seven children, two of whom
preceded the father in
death. In l864, with his wife and three
children, he moved to
Galesburg, Illinois, leaving that state in
l890 with his family and
moved to Leon, Iowa. There he lived until
the last years of his life
when he moved to Billings, Montana, where he
passed away. He leaves to
mourn his absence his wife, one brother, A.O.
LUTZ, of Benkelman,
Nebraska; one sister, NANCY J. MCGREW, of Des
Moines, Iowa; five
children, eighteen granchildren, seven great
grandchildren and a host of
other relatives and friends. The surviving
children are JOHN B. LUTZ,
of Sidney, Iowa; ROBERT W. LUTZ, of
Benkelman, Nebraska; IDA MAY KING,
of Omaha, Nebraska; HARRY G. LUTZ, of
Billings, Montana; NANCY C. CUNDY,
of Fedora, South Dakota.

MR. LUTZ in his earlier days was a brick
mason and while on a visit to
his son, ROBERT W., he erected the first
brick school that Benkelman
ever had. He has made his home during the
last 22 years of his life
with his youngest son, HARRY. He was shipped
from the Smith Funeral
Home, at Billings, to Benkelman, where his
remains were laid to rest.
The funeral services were conducted at the
home of his son, ROBERT W. at
ll a.m., February l5th, l9l6, being conducted
by Rev. Gibbs. Interment
was in the Benkelman Cemetery. He was a
member of the Presbyterian
Church, being baptized when a child.
