OBITUARY - ARTIMICIA (WILLIS) JORDAN.
Decatur County Journal
March 22, l900
ARTIMICIA WILLIS was born in White County, Illinois, on March 4th, l820,
and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. M.J. Brown, in Delta,
Colorado, on March l2, l900. She was united in marriage to JOHN JORDAN
of White County, Illinois on November 29th, l836, who died on April
l4th, l864. To this union were born ten children, five boys and five
girls. In l837 she emigrated with her husband to Wayne County, Iowa;
then to Decatur County, Iowa in l850.
At the age of l4 she was soundly converted to God, and united with the
Cumberland Presbyterian Church. In the year of l85l, she was one of ten
persons, who organized the Methodist Episcopal Church, in her own home,
at Leon. (Cannot read the next sentence.)
For several years, her natural strength was abating. And a few weeks
before her death, she had premonitions of the end, and requested the
presence of her children. She was ready for the summons when the weary
wheels of life stood still; and was granted her request, not for longer
life, but for a peaceful and happy death. She was a mother in Israel,
with strong natural affections, and a beautiful Christian spirit. She
wore "The white flower of a blameless life." And she will be missed by
a host of admiring friends, who sorrow because they will see her face no
more.
