Decatur County Journal
June l3, l90l

ROBERT H. JOHNSON was born in Logan County, Ohio, March 25, l842. Was
united in marriage with MISS NANCY CAMPBELL, July 3, l862. He was
converted in l856 and joined the M.E. Church of which he continued a
faithful member until death. Three boys and two girls were born to this
union, all living.

In October l899, a gracious revival broke out in his community under the
labors of Rev. J.W. Elder and quite a number were happily converted, a
Methodist Society was organized and Bro. JOHNSON appointed leader. He
served about thirteen months as a union soldier in the 49th Ohio
Infantry.

Bro. JOHNSON was a great sufferer for several months before he died. It
was our privilege to visit him a few days before death and although he
suffered greatly, yet was very happy, often exclaiming, "Praise the
Lord." He assured the writer that all was "peace and joy within." He
died May 29th. Funeral services were held at the M.E. Church at Leon.
He was buried under the auspices of the G.A.R. Post of Leon, of which he
was a member. "Truly the righteous hath hope in his death." His end was
peace.
