Decatur County Journal
May 28, l903

NANCY M. CAMPBELL was born in Crawford County, Ohio, March l6, l845.
Moved with her parents to Hardin County, Ohio. Was married to ROBT. H.
JOHNSON July 3, l862. To them were born six sons and one daughter,
three of the sons and the daughter surviving. She came with her husband
to Pleasanton, Iowa, in l869. They lived for a time in Morgan Township
and in l887 moved to a farm in Woodland Township. Here the husband
died, May 28, l90l.

Sister JOHNSON was converted at the age of l3 and united with the M.E.
Church and ever lived a consistent Christian life, and was a faithful
worker in the church and Sunday school. Their home was always open for
religious services. A revival at Mt. Tabor four years ago, resulted in
organizing a Methodist Society there, many being gathered into the
church. Bro. JOHNSON was the first class leader. The writer held
Thanksgiving service at their home in l900.

Sister JOHNSON was a patient sufferer for about three months before her
death and often praised God aloud for his goodness and a little while
before her death, spoke of seeing her husband and other departed ones
appearing to welcome her to the city of God. She died May l8, l903, her
death being peaceful. She was a friend to all and was greatly esteemed
by all who knew her. The community has lost a worthy Christian lady;
one whose place will be hard to fill. Funeral services were held at
Leon by the writer assisted by Rev. I.N. Woodward, after which her
remains were laid to rest beside those of her husband in the Leon
Cemetery.
