Decatur County Journal

August l6, l906

MRS. JOHNSON was born in Ohio in l840. In the early forties the family

moved to Michigan and settled on a farm near Lawton, where she grew to

womanhood. January 20, l86l, she was united in marriage to WALTER

JOHNSON. To this union were born four children, two of them, ANNA aged

l0 years, and THOMAS, at the age of 7 years, preceded her to the great

beyond. MRS. JENNIE SOMES, of Chicago Heights, Illinois, and MRS.

LENORE V. GAINS, of Edmond, Oklahoma Territory, with the aged husband

are left to mourn the loss of a devoted wife and mother.

The family came to Leon in l870 and lived the 36 years in one house

until a few weeks before her death, MRS. JOHNSON had been sick for

several months. In June, she was taken to Chicago Heights, at the home

of MRS. SOMES, where everything that loving hands could do was done to

relieve her sufferings which she bore with great fortitude until the

last. In the death of MRS. JOHNSON, Leon has lost a highly respected

citizen. AUNT EM, as she was familiarly called, was ever ready to

administer at the bedside of the sick and suffering and to know her was

to love her.

The funeral services were held at the home of E.E. SOMES, in Chicago

Heights, Sunday, August 5th, and the remains laid to rest in that city.

The many friends in Leon extend their heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved

husband and daughters.
