MRS. RACHEL JENKINS, who died at 9:20 a.m. on Saturday morning, January
l7, l89l, at the residence of her daughter, MRS. W.E. GAMMON, was born
in Clark County, Kentucky, Sept. 20th, l802, being 88 years, 3 months
and 27 days old at the time of her death.

May 30, l822, she was married to HENRY JENKINS, who was her companion
for more than 68 years, until his death on the l4th of last September.
She was the mother of ten children but of whom only three survive her,
one daughter and two sons. She had been a member of the Baptist Church
for 55 years or more, but on account of age and feebleness had not been
able to attend her church services for a number of years.

Her last sickness continued nearly a year, she being confined to her bed
most of the time and for the last three weeks suffering severely, but
through all her years of affliction she has borne her sufferings very
patiently, often expressing a desire and readiness to close her life
here and be at rest.

A devoted wife, a loving mother, a kind and affectionate grandmother,
has fallen asleep after a long life of usefulness, and will be greatly
missed in the family circle. Funeral services were held at the home,
attended by a large number of friends, after which she was laid away in
the Eden Cemetery.

Since to die is as natural as to be born, there should be no fear of
death, and this loving one was cheerfully resigned to depart.

Gone! gone! Dead and gone!

To the home of joy on high;

The battle's fought and won;

Lay the faithful armor by.

Dearest mother, fare thee well;

Thou the happy number swell.

Where no parting tear is shed,

Where no heart has ever bled.
