Decatur County Journal
Thursday, September 23, l9l5

EMMA M., the eldest daughter of G.A. and
ELIZABETH SMALLWOOD, was born
April l7, l889, died September 4, l9l5, age
twenty-six years, four
months and twenty-six days.

She was united in marriage December l2, l9l0,
to LEO E. SNETHEN, of
Pleasanton, Iowa. One child, GEORGE E., was
born to this union. She
leaves to mourn her loss besides her husband
and son, a loving father
and mother, three sisters and a host of
friends. She united with the
Christian Church at Odessa, Mo., in October,
l907, and since that time
has lived a true Christian life.

The funeral was held at the L.D.S. Church at
Pleasanton, Iowa, conducted
by Elder Smith, of Lamoni, Iowa, interment
being in the Hamilton
Cemetery. She was laid to rest in a
beautiful white shroud and a white
casket, which was placed in a metallic vault,
there to await the bright
morning of a new day. While the day was bad,
there was an unusually
large crowd in attendance and her casket was
strewn with beautiful
flowers as a token of love and esteem that
her friends and acquaintances
had for her. She was a young woman whom
everyone loved and respected as
she was always cheerful and ever ready to do
her duty at all times.

She loved home and her family and labored
diligently that they might
enjoy all the blessings of life. She was
called in the summer time of
life when all nature was smiling with
beautiful flowers and each verdant
breeze wafted sweet perfume therefrom. It
seems very hard for friends to
give up their loved ones, yet it is a
consolation to know that they will
never again be compelled to confront the
serious battles of life that
comes to us all day by day. Her lips will
never utter another word of
pain or grief; her eyes will never know again
the touch of tears. With
the most useful portion of her life to live
she was without a day's
notice called to face that sad, solemn debt
to which we must all submit.

It may be in the spring time of life, in the
summer time, as in her
case, or in the autumn when harvest is over
and nature is shedding her
foliage preparatory to the piercing winds of
winter which mows us all if
we are so fortunate as to escape the ravages
of disease for the three
previous periods of life. We strive to look
beyond the heights but our
only answer is the echo of our wailing cry
but some day we will all
understand.

pretty woman.
