Decatur County Journal
Thursday, August 5, l9l5

The body of CLAUDE BRYSON, son of MR. and
MRS. A.W. BRYSON, who was
killed in a Colorado mine, was brought here
Friday of last week from the
present home of the BRYSON family at Ft.
Morgan, Colorado, for interment
in the Catholic Cemetery southeast of Leon.
The remains were
accompanied to Leon by the parents, his
sisters, MISSES CLEO and
FLORENCE BRYSON, and his brother, EMMETT
BRYSON. They were met at the
station here Friday noon by a large number of
former neighbors and many
other friends, who accompanied the funeral
party to the Catholic Church
where funeral services were conducted by
Father Burkhizer, of Mt. Ayr,
after which interment in the cemetery
adjoining the church occurred.

CLAUDE BRYSON was born January l2, l89l. He
was employed in the coal
mines at Walsenburg and was operating a
drilling machine down in the
mine at the time of the accident, which
occurred Tuesday morning of last
week about l0:30 o'clock. While he was at
work, a fall of rock from the
roof of the mine occurred and he was caught
and crushed to death. The
body was quickly removed from the mine and
his parents notified at Ft.
Morgan. The body, accompanied by HOMER
HAWTHORNE, a close friend, was
taken at once to Ft. Morgan where services
were held. CLAUDE was a
member of Co. I. Ft. Morgan Militia. His
comrades attended the service
held at the Ft. Morgan Catholic Church, in a
body.

The family left Ft. Morgan with the body
Thursday noon for Leon and
arrived here Friday noon. MR. BRYSON and
family returned to their home
Tuesday morning. The BRYSON family were
residents of this county for
many years. They went to Colorado about six
years ago where they have
since made their home. The bereaved ones
have the sincere sympathy of
all.
