Neddie Comerford, a well Known Woodland Farmer
Found Dead Last Friday Morning.

Mr. Edward Comerford, one of the oldest residents of Decatur county, was found dead in his wagon when his team turned into the yard at the home of J. A. Still, 7 miles south of Leon last Friday morning.

Mr. Comerford had attended the sale at Mr. Still's the day before and had purchased some hogs. Friday morning he arose quite early and hitched his team to a wagon and started for the Still place after the hogs. As his team passed the farm of Guy Garner he noticed Mr. Comerford in the front of the wagon and he looked as if he was kneeling down. When the team went by the farm of Mrs. Cozad she noticed that there was no driver in the wagon and they watched the team which was trotting along down a hill and thought they were running away. A short distance beyond the team turned into the gate at the home of Mr. Still and when he went to the wagon he found Mr. Comerford lying in the botom of the wagon dead, having been stricken with heart failure and had evidently passed away without a struggle.

Neddie Comerford, as he was best known, was one of the pioneers of Decatur county. He was born in County Waterford, Ireland, but the date of his birth is not known, but it was thought to be between 80 and 90 years of age. He was married in Ireland in November, 1868, to Miss Katherine Regan, and they came to America in 1869 and located on a farm in Woodland township, near the Catholic church. Three children were born to them, Sara died at the age of four years and John at the age of two years. The aged wife and one daughter, Mrs. Edward Campbell, are left to mourn the loss of husband and father.

Funeral services were held at the Catholic church near his home on Monday morning at 9:30 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Father J. P. McGillian, of Chariton, and he was laid to rest in the Catholic cemetery [St. Mary's] adjoining the church.
