Robert Lowell Mark, age 75, of Bethany, Missouri, was born April 14, 1942, in Mercer County, Missouri to Myles and Opal (Rains) Mark, and passed away on April 7, 2018, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

When it came time to start Kindergarten, he attended a small rural school and then Pleasanton, Iowa School. Later after the family moved to Leon, Iowa he attended Leon Schools. During his high school years he worked at Pyfer’s Food Store in Leon. He graduated from Leon High School on May 24, 1960. He paid his own way to attend Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa, where in 1963, he was initiated into Kappa Alpha Chapter of Sigma Tau Delta Honorary English Society. He graduated from Simpson on May 31, 1964. That fall he began attending Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan and worked as an associate professor while he earned his master’s degree. He returned to Simpson as a teacher for one year. Then he started his life career as an insurance underwriter. Over the years he worked in Mobile, Alabama, Denver, Colorado, Dallas, Texas, San Diego, California, and Kansas City, Missouri. He retired from Generali Insurance Company then he moved back to Leon. He was currently living in Bethany, Missouri at the time of his death.

Lowell enjoyed working and always wanted to help others. In his free time, he loved to read mystery books and anything about history. He also was interested in how things worked. He wrote a booklet of his childhood memories for his family.

Preceding him in death were his grandparents; parents; and nephew, Lonnie Williams.

He is survived by his four sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty and Jim Cool of Centerville, Iowa, Cleta and Gordon Williams of Corydon, Iowa, Janice and Bob Schraft of Compton Hills, Illinois, and Patti and Lester Vandel of Leon; nieces and nephews, Roy Lee Bunch, Kevin Cool, Kent and Jeanice Cool, Tim and Angie Cool, Tina and Mike Bauman, Les Williams, Aaron and Dawn Schraft, Blake and Gordana Schraft, Callie Schraft, Carrie Schraft, and Lesley and Shad Cook; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at the Slade – O’Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2018, with Rev. Terry D. Roberts officiating. Burial will be in the Leon Cemetery, Leon, Iowa.
