Obituary

George McClelland Hamilton son of Joseph
and Lucy Hamilton, entered this life April
29, 1869 and passed away at his home in Des
Moines, Iowa, September 10, 1933, after a
brief illness caused by influenza.

He was one of a family of nine children
and spent his early boyhood on a farm near
Leon, Iowa. Later the family removed to Leon
where he continued to make his home, with the
exception of the past ten years, during which
timehe made his home in Des Moines.

At the age of eighteen years Mr. Hamilton
engaged in the mercantile business, spending
many years of his life in that work. For a
time he acted in the capacity of deputy
auditor of Decatur County, also serving as a
member of the Leon school board. His lodge
affiliations were with the Knights of Pythias
at Leon.

Mr. Hamilton was united in marriage to
Nellie Bowsher of Princeton, Mo. Two
daughters were born to this union, Winifred
and Alberta.

Of the subject of this sketch we can say
here was a man of kindly unassuming manner,
whose outstanding virtues were cheerfullness
and self sacrifice for those nearest to him.
This was especially shown toward his parents,
being ever ready to lend them every
assistance by his kindliness, cheering their
declining years.

After removing to Des Moines, Mr.
Hamilton engaged in the real estate business.
At the time of his passing he was associated
with the Harry G. Wallace Realty Co.

Members of the immediate family surviving
the deceased are his widow, two daughters,
Winifred of Des Moines and Mrs. Alberta
Leithead of Evanston, Illinois, two
grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Martha
Gardner of Chicago, Illinois, and Mrs. M. A.
Gammill of Leon, Iowa.

Services were conducted Wednesday
afternoon at Lilly's Funeral Home by Rev .
Paul Becker, pastor of the University Church
of Christ. Interment at Glendale cemetery.
