Services for Leonard Anthony "Link" Redding, 84, will be held Thursday, April 26, at 11 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Wheatland [Wyoming] with Rev. Andy Gudahl officiating. Interment will be in the Wheatland Cemetery with military gravesite rites by the Wyoming Army Guard of Cheyenne.

Mr. Redding died Saturday, April 21, at the Northwest Hospital in Tuscon, Ariz.

Link was born Oct. 4, 1916, in Tishomingo, Okla., the son of Bert and Mary Ann (Rowland) Redding. In 1928, he moved to Wyoming and worked for Cornelius Goertz in the Slater area and, met the young woman he would later marry. He returned to Okahoma and on March 3, 1941, entered the United States Army serving in four campaigns during World War II; Aleutian Islands, Marshall Islands, Philipine Islands and Ryukyus. Prior to being shipped overseas, Link married Iva Verlene Baker, who he had met in his early years in Wyoming. They were married Nov. 3, 1942, in San Luis Obispo, Calif., and later divorced.

After his discharge from the service on Oct. 2, 1945, he returned to Hitchcock, Okla., and worked in his Dad's welding and mechanic shop. In 1948, he moved his family back to Slater, and worked for Ralph Baker and Jim Finnerty. He purchased a farm in 1950 in the Slater area and farmed until his retirement in 1979 when they moved to Wheatland.

Link drove a school bus for 34 years when the family lived at Slater. He served on the board of the Farm and Home Administrtion and was a past member of the Farm Bureau. Link was known as "the 'quarter' Grandpa" as he always had a pocketful of quarters he gave to the kids.

Link is survived by his former wife of 51 years, Iva Redding of Slater; five children, Ann and husband Hershel Justus of Tucson, Ariz., Theresa and husband Dan Stanley of Tuscson, Leonard Redding Jr. of Wheatland, John Redding and wife Carolyn of Wheatland and Mary Jayne and husband, Steve Budd of Wheatland; a sister Marcelious Schultz of Okeene, Okla.; 19 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, J.A. Redding; sister, Viola Nusz; and three grandchildren, Dusty Redding, Jason Justus and Casey Budd.

Serving as pallbearers will be members of the military honor guard. Honorary pallbearers will be his family and many friends.

Memorials to Hospice of Platte County, P.O. Box 1025, Wheatland, WY 82201 would be appreciated by the family.

Family and friends may call at the First Christian Church in the Fireside Room prior to the services on Thursday from 9 - 11 a.m.

Platte Funeral Chapel of Wheatland is in charge of arrangements.
