________

Mrs. John Muse.

Rebecca J. Stewart was born Jan. 20, 1849, in Harrison, Mo., and departed this life Dec. 29, 1918, at the age of 69 years, 11 months and 9 days.

In 1851 she came with her parents to Center township, near Leon, where she spent nearly all of her life. On Feb. 28, 1869, she was united in marriage to John M. Muse. To this union was born five children: Mrs. E. J. Swope, Mrs. C. P. Swope, and Fred Muse, all of Leon; Ralph Muse, of Davenport, and Walter Muse, of Des Moines. The children were all at the bedside when the end came except Ralph, who on account of sickness could not come. These with five grandchildren, three sisters and four brothers and a host of friends are left to mourn her passing. Her husband departed this life Sept. 14, 1916.

At the age of 18 years Mrs. Muse confessed [to?] Christ, uniting with the Christian church to which she remained a devoted member to the last. She was a kind and loving wife and mother, devoting her life and energies for the comfort and good of those who surrounded her. A woman of few words, she cherished a warm heart for all humanity and met the end without a murmur or complaint.

Funeral services were conducted by Henry Esch, of Decatur, at the home of C. P. Swope, and she was laid to rest beside her husband in the Leon Cemetery.
