KILLED AND INJURED IN AUTO ACCIDENT.

A. C. Carter Instantly Killed;
His Father, G. W. Carter Seriously Injured in Oklahoma.

Many old friends in Decatur county will be pained to hear of a terrible auto accident at El Reno, Okla., on last Wednesday morning, which resulted in the death of A. C. Carter and the serious injury of his father, G. W. Carter, both of Geary, Okla., who were for many years residents of Decatur county, residing on a farm about eight miles south of Leon. The latest word from Mrs. G. W. Carter is that he is still living, but is in an unconscious condition. A. C. Carter married a sister of Glass Finch, of southeast of Leon. The following account of the terrible accident is taken from the Geary Booster of November 26th:

Another tragedy bearing on this morning about 8 o'clock, when A. C. Carter in his auto, accompanied by his father, Geo. W. Carter, collided with an eastbound interurban at the corner of Kavanaugh and South Hoff avenues, in the southern part of El Reno. This crossing is a bad place, and other similar accidents have happened there, this, together with the fact that a heavy fog hovered over El Reno at that hour, are evidently responsible for the terrible accident.

From appearances the interurban was traveling at a good rate of speed. So terrific was the blow that the father was thrown clear of the car, while the son was fastened under the car and was dragged by the interurban together with the auto, fully one hundred or more feet, before the interurban car could be brought to a standstill.

A. C. Carter left his home north of town about 6 o'clock, drove to his father's home here in Geary and he with his father were going to Oklahoma City on an automobile trade, when the accident happened.

A. C. Carter has been a resident of Geary for several years, and has been engineer of the city power plant the past sixteen months. He was held in high esteem by all of his many acquaintances in the community. He leaves a wife, five children and other relatives to mourn his untimely and tragic death.

Geo. W. Carter was taken to the Hatchett hospital in El Reno where he is still unconscious and in a serious condition. Mrs. Carter, his wife, left immediately after receiving news of the accident for El Reno, and is helping to care for her husband. Mrs. A. C. Carter collapsed upon hearing the news and was unable to make the trip to El Reno.

The remains of A. C. Carter were brought to Geary Wednesday evening and taken to the home of his parents. A large crowd of friends were at the depot when the train arrived.

A phone message received from the El Reno sanitarium at 7:30 o'clock Thursday morning stated that G. W. Carter was still unconscious but that he appeared to be gaining strength and his pulse was stronger and more regular, but that they could not say as to what the final outcome would be. His wife is still at his bedside. Although unconscious he complains of the hurting in his head.

When the interurban car was stopped the automobile was comletely demolished and lying upside down across the track with Mr. Carter's body pinned beneath it. The body of A.C. Carter was badly bruised and broken, while his fathers' injuries are mostly about his head, but his skull is not fractured.

The Booster with their many friends extend our most sincere sympathy to the bereaved ones in this their sad hour of affliction.

Funeral arrangements have not been made up to the time we go to press, but are pending upon the arrival of relatives from Missouri and Iowa. Will give more particulars next week.

Further news from Geary, Okla., in regard to the auto accident in which A. C. Carter lost his life and his father was seriously injured as published in The Reporter last week, give the sad intelligence that G. W. Carter also died as a result of his injuries, passing away on Saturday, Nov. 28th, three days after the accident. The death of the senior Mr. Carter came as a terrible blow, as Mrs. Carter received a message the same day with the news of the death of her brother in an auto accident in one of the eastern states the same day her son was killed and her husband was fatally injured. Both of the Caters were buried at Geary.

GEORGE W. CARTER.
Geo. W. Carter, son of Charles and Eliza Carter, was born at Brighton, Jefferson county, Iowa, on the 4th day of August, 1844, and died on November 28, 1914, at age of 70 years, 3 months and 24 days.

He enlisted in the 3rd Mo. Cav., in April, 1862; was transferred to Co. L. 7th Reg. Mo. State Militia Cavalry. He re-enlisted in Co. H, 13th Reg. Mo. Cav. He served 4 years, 1 month and 13 days in all.

He was married to Elizabeth "Libbie" Marble, August 27, 1897, at Pleasanton, Iowa. To this union were born four children, Mrs. Rose Cornett, of Albany, Mo., Deane, who died in infancy, Mrs. Della Hall, of Saline, Mo., and A. C. Carter, who was in the company with his father at the time of the fatal accident at El Reno, on Nov. 25. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, sixteen grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and two brothers and four sisters who reside in California.

ALONZO C. CARTER.

Alonzo Curington Carter was born August 2, 1874, and died on November 25, 1914, at the age of 40 years, 3 months, and 23 days. He was married to Ella Finch February 27, 1901. To this union was born four children: Ennola, George, Frank and John. These children and his wife, mother, two sisters and a host of other relatives are left to mourn his sad and untimely departure.

[He was interred at Geary Cemetery, Geary, Oklahoma.]
