Leon Reporter
Leon, Decatur County, Iowa

Doyle Lynn Deemer, age 58 of Leon, Iowa, son of Lester Calvin and Wilma Grace (Adair) Deemer, was born October 25, 1953 in Leon. He died July 6, 2012 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa, following a long and brave battle with pancreatitis.

Doyle graduated from West Marshall High School in State Center, Iowa. As a young man, he worked a variety of jobs – at LE Meyers as a semi driver to the worksite, as a mechanic for Case, and driving heavy equipment for Keith Kent Construction. For over 30 years, Doyle was a secondary roads blade operator for Decatur County. Doyle was a strong-willed, hard-working man who was happiest when he was busy.

Doyle married Patti Lewis on March 2, 1974. Two daughters, Tonia Marie and Dawn Michele, were born to them.

He later married Lila Renee (Schrader) Petty on June 19, 1980 in Leon, and Doyle gained two daughters, Jolene Lanee and Jonda Lucille. Later they were blessed with daughter Brandi Lynn.

Doyle enjoyed camping and riding horses with his family and friends – trail riding as the trail master and as the master chef for the campfire cooking. He was a member of the Decatur County Saddle Club and parked cars for the Leon Rodeo. Doyle was a long-time member of the Leon Rodeo Committee. For many years, Doyle did construction and set-up for the Leon Rodeo, including the box seats, repairs, and anything else that needed his wide assortment of tools. He could fix or do anything as a carpenter, electrician, mechanic, or handyman. Doyle liked to help his friends and never said "no" to lending a hand with a job.

Doyle loved his family and appreciated his many friends in the community. Doyle also liked to relax by watching the Western channel on television.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Lila Deemer, of Leon; 5 daughters: Jolene Petty and Jonda Petty of Leon, Tonia Schossow and Dawn Harrell and husband Tom of Eldora, Iowa, and Brandi Deemer of Des Moines, Iowa; 5 grandchildren: Matthew Petty of Leon, and Faith Schossow, Paige, Kayne, and Lainey Harrell, all of Eldora; brothers Ivin Deemer and wife Janice of Lucas, Iowa, Les Deemer and wife Sue of Chariton, Iowa, and Rod Deemer of Lucas; sister Brenda Rumley of Chariton; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and many friends.
