Marjorie Craig Young

Marjorie Craig Young was born February 24, 1917, to Eldridge and Estella Craig at the family farm near Davis City, Iowa, and died July 1, 2008 at the Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa.

She graduated from the Davis City High School, attended Simpson College, and graduated with a BS degree from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.

She was married to Lawrence Bradford Young June 15, 1946, in Kansas City, Missouri.

Her lifetime work and interest was in the field of education. Mrs. Young was an avid reader and her hope was for every child to learn to read. She was an administrative assistant to the Decatur County Superintendent of Schools and a secondary school classroom teacher with the Grand Valley Community Schools in Kellerton, Iowa. Her joy was the young friends she made in the classroom - her school family — sharing their triumphs and disappointments.

Her parents, sister Pauline McDowell, her nephew Bob McDowell and her husband Lawrence Bradford Young preceded her in death.

Immediate family members surviving are nephews Ronald McDowell of Pennsylvania and Craig McDowell of Arizona. Nieces Laura Beth Cowden of Dallas, Texas, Pauline Cowden of Miami, Florida, Shannon Ruiz and her children Riann and Mia of Houston, Texas.

Mrs. Young was a life-time student of the Holy Bible. She aptly concludes her long and influential life with 2 Timothy 4-7: 1 have fought the good fight, I have
finished the race, I have kept the faith.

Mrs. Young requested that no funeral services be held. Interment was with her best friend and late husband Lawrence Bradford Young in the Keokuk National Cemetery, Keokuk, Iowa.
