GEORGE G. SMITH was born in Chilicothe, Ross
County, Ohio, February 9,
l839, and died at the home of his brother,
JNO. J. SMITH, two miles
south of Weldon, Friday, June ll, l9l5, at
the age of 76 years, 4 months
and 2 days.

For some time he had been in gradual decline
but was seriously ill only
a few days. Death was due to exophthalmic
goiter.

He was one of eleven children born to GEORGE
S. and LARY SMITH, at
Chillicothe, Ohio, all of whom are dead
except JNO. J. SMITH, of Weldon,
who is the only surviving member of the
family. At the death of his
mother he moved to McClean County, Illinois,
together with his father,
sister and brother in l874. He kept the old
home together until the
death of the sister and father. The
following two years he farmed there
and kept house by himself.

In l903 he moved to Weldon, Iowa, with his
brother, JNO. whose home he
shared until his death. In early years he
united with the M.E. Church.
He won his many friends through his clean,
honest, upright life and
loyal citizenship.
