Decatur County Journal
Thursday, June l7, l9l5

CLINT COLE was born in Hancock County,
Tennessee, August 2l, l853, and
died at his home in Grand River, Iowa, June
l3, l9l5, aged 6l years, 9
months and 22 days. MR. COLE was one of a
family of nine children. He
is survived by his aged mother, his faithful
wife, one son, FORREST, two
brothers, DOCK and JAMES COLE, of
Westerville. MR. and MRS. COLE lost
an infant daughter in September, l905.

MR. COLE's parents removed from Tennessee,
when their children were all
small and settled near Westerville, Iowa,
where MR. COLE grew to
manhood. He was married to PARMELIA CARLTON,
August 2, l885, and
brought his bride to Grand River where they
have ever since resided
except one year and a half which they spent
in Dakota. He was a
druggist by trade at which work he spent
nearly all his active years,
having been associated with DR. and FRED BONE
in the business many
years. He was for several years a member of
the Odd Fellow's Lodge but
discontinued his membership when the Lodge
was disbanded. He had not
enjoyed very good health for several years
previous to the time when he
was obliged finally to give up active work.
It was in May, l9l4, he had
to retire from business. The past year he
seemed to grow weaker and
weaker gradually, until the end came.

The funeral services were conducted from the
new home by Rev.
E.B.Scoggan, assisted by a choir representing
all the churches of Grand
River and the body was laid to rest beside
the body of the little
daughter in the Young Cemetery. The
estimation in which MR. COLE was
held was shown by the large company of
friends who attended the final
memorial services. Thus passes away another
of Grand River's oldest
citizens. His life was almost coeval with
that of Grand River. He was
of a gentle unassuming nature, doing quietly
and unobtrusively his
work. Quietly and uncomplainingly he spent
the last months of his life
and passed away so gently that though we knew
the end must come soon we
were all surprised at his passing away so
soon as he did.
