Sherry Marie Decker, age 59, of Leon, Iowa, the daughter of William “Bill” Seward McCaull, III and Sharon Marie (Mitchell) McCaull, was born March 6, 1958, in Osceola, Iowa. She left this life on Friday, November 24, 2017, at the Mayo Clinic Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.

Sherry grew up in the Humeston, Corydon, and Derby area of southern Iowa. While in high school, Sherry enjoyed playing the flute in the band, participated in 4-H, played softball, was wrestling manager, was a drill team member, and worked at Nick’s Café. She graduated from Mormon Trail High School in 1976. After graduation she worked at O’Bryan Brothers in Leon and later had her own in home daycare. In 1988, she became a part-time clerk at Casey’s General Store. Over her 28 years and 11 month career with them, she worked her way up to be an area supervisor over the managers of many stores. She recently retired due to failing health.

In May of 1982, Sherry was united in marriage to Gary Lynn Wood. They were blessed with four children, Kendall, Stacy, Selena, and Shelby. On August 3, 2002, Sherry married Richard Neil Decker in Leon, Iowa. His two children, Darin and Korbi, became part of her family, too.

In her free time, Sherry loved to do scrapbooking and stamping, and attend her kids’ school and sporting activities. A few years ago she was awarded the Spirit Award during the girls state basketball tournament for her support of Central Decatur Schools. Some of her most special times were spent with her five grandchildren, whom she adored. In fact, her grandchildren took up the majority of her attention while she was not at work. She was a faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church in Leon until its closure. She was currently attending Loving Chapel United Methodist Church in Leon.

Sherry was a loving, compassionate, and unselfish woman who will be missed for her work ethic, her positive attitude, her unconditional support, and her smile.

Preceding her in death were her dad, Bill McCaull and her in-laws, Don and Louise Decker.

Survivors include her husband, Richard Decker, of Leon; children, Kendall Wood of Des Moines, Iowa and friend, Megan Langenfeld of Omaha, Nebraska, Stacy Wood of Leon, Selena and Brent Lundin, and Shelby and Mike Kosiek, all of Carlisle, Iowa, Darin and Kathleen Decker of Davis City, Iowa, and Korbi Feltz of Steven’s Point, Wisconsin; five grandchildren, Kelsie, Lakyn, Knox, Lukas, and Logan; mother, Sharon McCaull of Ankeny, Iowa; sister, Sheryl Parker and Dale of West Des Moines, Iowa; brother, William “Bill” McCaull, IV of Urbandale, Iowa; nieces and nephews; her Casey’s General Store Family; other relatives; and many, many friends.

Funeral services will be held at the Slade – O’Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa at 10 a.m. Thursday, November 30, 2017. Burial will be in the Leon Cemetery, Leon, Iowa.

Memorials may be given to the Journey for Joy Foundation in Sherry’s memory.
