Decatur County Journal
Thursday, May 6, ll9l5

FRANK DODD, of Garden Grove, a former
resident of Leon, fell beneath the
wheels of a freight train near Garden Grove,
last Monday afternoon about
five o'clock and was killed. The body was
found by the section men as
they were returning to Garden Grove from a
point south where they had
been at work.

It seems that MR. DODD, LEW WATSON and TOM
HURLEY and a brother of MR.
HURLEY's had been down about three miles
southwest of Garden Grove
setting a saw mill and were walking up the
track back to Garden Grove
when the freight train came along. Three of
the men were on one side of
the track and MR. DODD was on the opposite
side. The HURLEYS and MR.
WATSON succeeded in boarding the train and
did not know that MR. DODD
had slipped and fell beneath the wheels until
after they reached Garden
Grove and the body had been found. MR. DODD
had one limb severed and
was terribly bruised and crushed.

MR. DODD was near fifty years of age and
leaves a wife and two
daughters, MRS. FAY UMPHRESS and MISS HAZEL
DODD, both of Garden Grove.
The funeral services were held Wednesday
morning at l0 o'clock and
interment followed at Woodland.
