The family lived in Des Moines and Waterloo, Iowa, for a few years and then returned to the family farm, west of Lamoni. In 1967 they moved into the town of Lamoni and Lois became secretary at the high school and elementary school, respectively. After Roscoe's death in 1976, she worked at the Decatur County Recorder's office in Leon.

Lois and Leo Stevenson were married on February 17, 1980, at the Community of Christ Church in Lamoni.

Throughout her whole life Lois enjoyed cooking and entertaining family and friends. Her favorite hobbies included sewing, crafts, and woodworking.
