He was born April 8, 1936 in Oswego, Kansas, the son of Lawrence and Pearl Mathis Foster. He was raised on a farm near Coffeyville, Kansas. In 1955, he served in the United States Army as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic. After two years in the reserves and then four years of active duty he separated from the Army in 1961.

Harold then attended Graceland, majoring in Education and graduating in 1964. In 1970 he graduated from Northwest Missouri State earning his Masters Degree. Harold stayed involved in the Lamoni community by serving as an Elder in the Community of Christ, serving six years on the Park and Recreation board and of course giving his opinion at Grandma's, Maid Rite and the Lamoni Sale Barn. He and La Rita shared their love with of course the family and friends but many a dog, cat and even a Longhorn were recipients of their love. Harold also loved his convertible, auctions, reading, the State Fair, gardening and his marigolds.May we all find comfort in knowing, if God needs anything fixed, Harold is there to "Fosterize" it.
