Ida Matilda Smith, 87, of Olathe, KS, passed away August 25, 2011 at Olathe Medical Center. A Memorial service will be held 1:00 pm Saturday, September 17, 2011 at Slade - O’Donnell Funeral Home, Leon, Iowa (641)446-6211, with Inurnment at Leon Cemetery, Leon. Ida was born May 31, 1924 in Hancock, MO to Bert McClellan and Mary E. (Bartlett) Gibson. She was one of eleven children. She grew up in Iowa and graduated from Garden Grove High School. Ida married James Robert Smith on June 30, 1947 in Leon, Iowa and they were blessed with daughter Phyllis Jean. After her daughter’s formal education, Ida worked outside the home. She worked at Look Magazine in Des Moines for several years, was a data entry operator at Younkers, and was a great homemaker. They moved to Gardner in 2001 and Olathe in 2010. Ida enjoyed many hobbies including sewing, painting ceramics, playing cards and Wii bowling. Her stay at Cedar Lake was great and she enjoyed the time spent and friendships with the other residents. She loved her family and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be dearly missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband James in April of 2011, six brothers and one sister.

Ida is survived by her daughter Phyllis Jean “P.J.” Grove and her husband Doug of Olathe, siblings Gladys Ritter and Berneta Gibson of Des Moines, IA, and Carroll Gibson of Marlow, OK; granddaughter Kelly and husband Rob Laquet and children Garrett, Kendra and Krysan of Spring Hill, granddaughter Jennifer and husband Keith Howe and children Carson and Kennedy of Shawnee, KS.
