Edgar Bell McClelland.

Edgar Bell McClelland was born in Decatur City, Iowa, October 19, 1860, and died at the home of his sister, Mrs. J. P. Hall, in Denver, Colorado, August 3, 1908, aged 47 years, 9 months and 14 days.

With his parents, Dr. J. R. and Mrs. Amanda McClelland, he came to Leon when he was only five years of age, and with a temporary absence of a few years at Atchison, Kan., had made his home in this city ever since. But when a mere boy he studied telegraphy and held positions at Chariton, Mt. Ayr and other points. At the age of 22 years in partnership with his brother-in-law, W. P. Clark, he engaged in the grocery business under the firm name of Clark & McClelland, and was prominently identified with the business interests of Leon from that time until his death, and was a prominent factor in all things which tended to build up the business interest of his home town, being considered as one of the most enterprising businessmen, and was ever ready to invest his money in enterprises which were for the good of the town and community.

He was never married but devoted his whole life to his beloved mother and two sisters, and there was no family where the brotherly love was stronger manifested, his mother and sisters being his first thought at all times and his life was wrapped up in their welfare.

His health began to fail about a year ago and since that time he had been traveling over the west in search of a climate that might be beneficial. He spent part of last winter in Leon, Leaving here April 1st and going to Canada, Montana, and Pueblo, Colorado. June 1st he went to the home of his sister, Mrs. J. P. Hall, in Denver, Colorado, and the best medical attention and the devotion of his mother and sisters could not restore his health and the Reaper claimed his own.

In the death of Edgar Bell McClelland the entire community has sustained a severe loss. Aside from his business associates he enjoyed the warm and devoted friendship of many friends, and his untimely death is deeply mourned.

His body accompanied by his aged mother, Mrs. Amanda McClelland, Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Hall, Mrs. Emma Clark and daughter Miss Etta, arrived on August 5th, and was taken to the family home where the funeral was held on Thursday morning, August 6th, conducted by Elder Frank Sellards, of Gravity, Iowa, a lifetime friend. The floral offerings were many and beautiful, mute testimonials of the love of his friends. All business was suspended in this city during the funeral, and a large concourse of sorrowing friends followed his earthly remains to their final resting place in the beautiful Leon cemetery, where the final rites were held by the Knights of Pythias lodge, of which he had been a member for many years, the members of which attended the funeral in a body.

MRS. AMANDA McCLELLAND AND FAMILY.
