Obituary ~ Oliver Edwin "Ollie" Hull
March 12, 1866 ~ January 25, 1930

Oliver Edwin Hull was born March 12, 1866 in Allegheny county, Pennsylvania, and died at Creston, Iowa January 25, 1930.

When he was a boy he came with his parents to Chariton Iowa where he grew to manhood. In 1885 He moved to Leon, Iowa. His father John D. Hull bought the Leon Reporter with two thirds of the Reporter being sold. Later Ollie bought out the partners and and was the editor until his death. He was the Secretary of Iowa State Press Association that was formed 25 years ago and held this position until his death.

He married Miss Cora B. Honnold October 1890 and they had one child, Mrs. Dorothy Parson of Creston. Mrs. Hull preceded her husband from this life May 6, 1925.

Ollie was a member of the Grand River Lodge, No. 78 A.F.A.M. Leon Iowa, in this order he was a member of Royal Arch Knights Templar and Myatic Shrine and a member of Kaaba Temple, Davenport. He was a member of the Knights of Pythies and Modern Woodmen of America, besides his membership in these orders, Ollie was a most energetic member of the Leon Chamber of Commerce and was always in his place ready to do his part ot boost the commercial interests of his community. When the Leon Rotory was organized, Ollie became one of the charter members and served as the second president of the club. No member of this club entered more into its spirit than he did and he was probably better informed on Rotary than any other member of the club.

One brother, Frank Hull preceded him in death, as did his wife and parents.

Mr. Hull is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Zell Pardee, Los Angeles, California and Mrs. Meri Netherwood, Madison, Wisconsin. His daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Parsons of Creston and a grandson, John Calvin Parsons Jr.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at he Presbyterian church by Rev. Luther Kurtz, Interment was made in the Leon Cemetery by the side of his wife.
