August 02, 2015Robert Carl "Bob" Gittinger, 90, of Longmont, CO, died Monday July 27, 2015 at Longmont United Hospital. Bob was born in Leon, Iowa on April 7, 1925 to Carl M. Gittinger and Frieda Gehlhaas Gittinger. After graduating from Leon High School in 1943, Bob joined the Marine Corp. and proudly represented his country, serving in the South Pacific during World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1946 with the rank of Sergeant.
Bob married Alice Ellen Hamilton on May 16, 1948, and they moved to Cheyenne, WY where they lived until 1965. They then moved to Longmont where they owned and operated A & C Rental until 1982. They enjoyed a second home in Big Elk Meadows for many years and retirement homes in South Texas and then Deming, NM. They enjoyed traveling and made friends all over the country.
Alice predeceased him in 2007 after 59 years of marriage. He was also predeceased by his parents in Iowa.
Bob attended Life Bridge Christian Church and was a Life Member of the VFW and of Longmont Elks Lodge. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Consistory in Cheyenne, WY and the Shrine Temple in Rawlins, WY.
Cremation arrangements have been handled by Howe Mortuary and a memorial service will be held in their chapel on Friday, August 7, 2015 at 1:30 p.m. Donations may be made to the Shriner's Hospital for Children in lieu of flowers.
