Merle married Maurice W. German in a double wedding with her sister, Hilda and Varga Hagen, on June 8, 1941 in Lexington, Missouri. They were never blessed with children, but her nieces and nephews were a great blessing and joy to her.

She was employed at the Weldon Post Office and for the Decatur County Hospital for many years.

Merle and Maurice farmed near Weldon before building a new home in the town of Weldon. They took several trips to the west coast and throughout Iowa and Missouri. They enjoyed their fishing days together.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband Maurice in 1977; brothers, Farrel, Duane, and Gerald Hullinger; sisters, her twin Pearl Hullinger, Ruby Hullinger, Felma Ditterman, and Mildred Lockwood and husband Vic; and brother-in-law Varga Hagen.

Those who will cherish her memory most are her sisters, Hilda Hagen of Duvall, Washington and Delores Dingman of Tualatin, Oregon; sisters-in-law, Carolene Leeper of Corydon, Iowa and Margaret Hullinger of Yakima, Washington; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
