Obituary ~ Robert Alan "Bob" Gartin
January 17, 1958 ~ April 7, 2016

Robert Alan Gartin, age 58, of Gilman, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2016 at his home with his family by his side.

A memorial service for Bob will be held on April 16, 2016 by the family at 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Gilman. Pastor Cheryl Ridenour will officiate. Memorial contributions may be directed in Bob’s name to his family to be designated at a later date.

Bob was born on January 17, 1958 in Iowa City, Iowa. He was adopted shortly after birth by Melvin Sleezer Gartin and Hazel Mildred (Baker) Gartin. Bob was raised on the family farm near High Point in Decatur County, Iowa. He graduated from Mormon Trail Community School in 1976 and later attended Des Moines Area Community College. He lived and worked most of his adult life in the Marshalltown area. He was baptized in the Christian faith at High Point United Methodist Church, Leon, Iowa.

Bob enjoyed his grandsons, fishing and softball. He was active in men’s slow pitch softball most of his life as a player and later as an umpire. He was a huge fan of the Chicago Bears and enjoyed cheering on his team. He enjoyed all sports and watching his grandsons play baseball, wrestle and football. His grandchildren want everyone to know Papa Bob was just a nice guy. He enjoyed cooking and hosting barbeques for family and friends.

He is survived by his three sons, Justin (Leslie) Gartin, Marshalltown, Jeremy Gartin, Newton and Andrew (Ashley) Gartin, Gilman. He is survived by his four grandsons; Drew and Drake Gartin, Gilman and Isaiah and Noah Gartin, Marshalltown. He is also survived by his sister Joanie and husband Joe Boggs, LeRoy, and nephew Robb Boggs and niece Katie (Jeff) Turpin.

He was predeceased by his parents Melvin and Mildred (Baker) Gartin.
