Death of R. F. Fisher

R. E. Fisher, 46, for many years identified with the business interests of Mount Ayr, died at his home in east Mount Ayr Friday evening, after a long illness. Mr. Fisher had been in ill health for several years, at times his condition being such that hope of recovery was abandoned, but his vitality was such that he would rally and within a few days return to work. His courage and endurance were such as to be admired by his acquaintances. During recent months the intervals between serious attacks became more frequent and on Tuesday he became critically ill. He lingered until Friday evening when death claimed him.

The body lay in state at the home from nine o'clock until noon Sunday and funeral services were conducted at the home Sunday afternoon at two o'clock by Rev. Jay Kirkendall, pastor of the Methodist church. The service was largely attended and the floral tributes were profuse and beautiful. Interment was made in the beautiful cemetery at Leon.

Raymond Eugene Fisher was born at Forest City, Iowa, March 25, 1889, and died in Mount Ayr, Iowa, January 14, 1927, aged 46 years, eight months and 19 days. He was married March 27, 1901, at Leon, Iowa, to Bess A. Oney, who with their only child, Maurine, survives him.

The only remaining members of his immediate family are one sister, Mrs. Harry Penniwell, of Des Moines, who was present at the funeral services, and Robert Fisher, of Dallas, Oregon.

About twenty years ago Mr. and Mrs. Fisher came to Mount Ayr and Mr. Fisher engaged in the mercantile business under the firm name, Fisher, Hansell & Co. This venture proved a success and in a short time he purchased Mr. Hansell's interest, changing the firm name to R. E. Fisher & Company. He continued the business until 1917, when he was forced to retire on account of ill health, seeking outside employment and hoping for complete recovery.

This, however, was not his good fortune and he continued frail until last Friday night when death came. Nine years ago he chose the life insurance field as his work and was successful, being associated with the Des Moines Life and Annuity of Des Moines, Iowa.

He was a veteran of the Spanish-American war and a member of both the Masonic and Odd Fellows lodges of this city. His faith was with the Congregational church.
