Obituary ~ Helen "Nadine" (Bowman) Rollins

Helen Nadine Rollins, age 92, of Davis City, Iowa, the daughter of Harvey Wilson and Ada Mae (Heard) Bowman, was born January 21, 1924, at Oakland, Missouri. She left this life from her rural home on Tuesday, October 4, 2016.

Nadine grew up in Lebanon, Missouri and graduated from high school there in 1942. On November 20, 1942, she married Clarence Elmer Rollins, in Lebanon. As children, they met at church and school functions. Clarence always said he knew by the time he was in sixth grade he was going to marry Nadine. The couple started their life together on a farm near Lebanon. They were blessed with daughters, Linda and Wanda, while living there. In 1947, they moved to another farm at Norborne, Missouri. Daughter, Donna, was born during their time there. In 1958, the family moved to a farm outside of Davis City, Iowa, which was still Nadine’s current home. While there, their fourth daughter, Gina, was born.

Early on, Nadine worked in a clothing factory and an ammunitions plant, but for most of her life she was a wife, mother, and a homemaker for her family. She also drove the tractor and helped Clarence on the farm. Nadine loved country life. She loved gardening and her flowers, cooking, church activities, and community service. She was a member of the Davis City United Methodist Church and the Davis City Garden Club. She and Clarence square danced for many years and she continued to attend the local jam sessions after his death.

Preceding her in death were: her parents; husband Clarence on October 12, 1994; and 12 siblings, Frances Shipley, Theodore Bowman, Josephine Stephens, Bertha “Bobe” Cooper, Alice Crandall, Farmer “Pete” Bowman, Lydia Vance, Jesse Caroline “Carrie” Nation, Clark Bowman, and triplets, June, Joan, and Jean Bowman.

Survivors include: her daughters, Linda Hamaker of Lamoni, Iowa, Wanda Rex and husband William of Packwood, Iowa, Donna Lysinger of Lamoni, and Gina Stafford and husband Mark of Van Buren, Arkansas; grandchildren, David Hamaker and wife Carrie of Kellerton, Iowa, Cassandra Hamaker and husband Mike Evans of Siloam Springs, Arkansas, Rachel Davis and husband Shannon of Weaverville, North Carolina, Angela Stevenson and husband John of Lamoni, Sterling Rex and wife Sara of Wayland, Iowa, Eve Henson and husband Daron of Lamoni, Drake Stafford and Tori Stafford, both of Van Buren; great grandchildren, McKenzi Hamaker, Karlee Hamaker, Abby Hoffman and husband Tim, Hunter Hamaker, Maxwell Evans, Ethan Davis, Jocelyn Davis, Austin Stevenson, Sydney Rex, Saylor Rex, Emily Davey, Kristopher Davey, and Taylor Henson; three great, great grandchildren, Baylor, Kholt, and Kashen Hoffman; brother, Robert Bowman and wife Jean of St. Louis, Missouri; sister, Connie Hooks of Claremont, California; sister-in-law, Midge Bowman of Independence, Missouri; many, many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at the Slade – O’Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa at 10 a.m. Friday, October 7, 2016, with Pastor Neil Montz and Pastor Jodi Rushing officiating. Burial will be in the Davis City Cemetery, Davis City, Iowa.

Memorials may be given to the Davis City United Methodist Church OR HCI, Mount Ayr, Iowa.
