Obituary ~ Frances May "Fran" (Snodgrass) Morey

Frances May Morey, age 76, of Leon, Iowa, the daughter of Harold Joseph and Leona May (Woods) Snodgrass, was born in Wayne County, Iowa. She passed from this life on Friday, November 4, 2016, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa.

Fran grew up in the Allerton, Iowa area and graduated from Allerton High School in 1958. In January of 1959, she married Guy Thomas Hampton. They were blessed with four children, Michael, Sherry, Kirk, and Tammy. Fran was a wife, mother, and a homemaker for her family. In 1974, she married Richard Harvey Morey. His children, Richard “Skip”, Curtis, and Melody, all became part of her family, too. They were also blessed with son, Richard Shawn. Over the years, Fran worked as a home health aide and at Westview Acres in Leon. In the early 1980’s, Fran obtained her insurance license and began work at the Leon Farm Bureau office. Throughout her life, Fran farmed and took pride in her land and cattle.

In her free time, Fran loved to shop, visit, travel, and just be on the go. She was a member of the Leon BPW, Leon Chamber of Commerce, and a bowling team.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Richard Morey; sons, Kirk Hampton, Mike Hampton and Curt Morey; granddaughter, Dawn Smith; brothers, Wayne Snodgrass and Joe Snodgrass; and niece, Cheryl Snodgrass.

Survivors include her children, Sherry Smith of Albia, Iowa, Tammy Muir and husband, Bert of Leon, Iowa, Shawn Morey and wife Khara of Rock Island, Illinois, Skip Morey and wife, Sherry of San Ramon, California, and Melody Hill and husband, Kevin of Wayne, Nebraska; grandchildren, Amanda & Mike Kelley, Kaleb Hampton, Richard & Tammy Smith, Jeff & Tina Smith, Brittany Peterson, Cassie & Matt Farmer, Jason Peterson, Ian Morey, Megan Morey, Molly Hill, and Jesse & Tabitha Hill; great grandchildren, Adriene, Gage, Jaycee, Tiffany, Alexandra, Dacota, Marshall, Vanessa, Cole, Trey, Kaydene, Abbey, and Reese; sister, Carolyn Allpress of Des Moines, Iowa; nieces and nephews; her beloved cat, Gabbie; and other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services will be held at the Slade – O’Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa at 10 a.m. Wednesday, November 9, 2016, with Rev. Terry D. Roberts officiating. Burial will be in the Trinity Hills Cemetery, west of Decatur, Iowa.
