Donna Kay Melson, age 79, the daughter of George and Anna Marie (Ott) Vanderflute, was born in Iowa City, Iowa on May 2, 1937. She passed from this life on Friday, August 26, 2016, at the King City Manor in King City, Missouri.

Donna grew up around Decatur County, Iowa and attended school at Terra Haute School through the eighth grade. She went to high school in Leon, Iowa. Donna moved to Des Moines and worked for a few years. She married Richard Thomas Overton. Later she decided to take her kids, Kenneth and Betty, and move back to Leon to help take care of her parents.

She married Junior Lee Melson, known as Rambling Red, in 1976.

Donna was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and attended when she could. Donna loved her family very much and wanted to be with them as much as she could.

Her favorite pastimes were playing Bingo, working puzzles, and embroidering. She also loved to play drums in the Country Two band.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Junior Melson; son, Kenneth Overton; brothers, Everett Vanderflute and wife Helene, Donald Vanderflute, and Richard Vanderflute and wife Marie; and sister, Darlene Binning.

Survivors include her daughter, Betty Pulliam and husband, Ron of King City, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Kenneth Overton, Jr., Anna K. Overton, Donna Ann Overton, Ronald Pulliam, Jr. known as Junior, Connor W. Pulliam, Andrew K. Pulliam, and Veronica Ann Pulliam; great grandson, Kaleb Wayne Overton; sister, Dolores M. Mart and husband, Raymond of Omaha, Nebraska; brother, George Vanderflute and wife, Myrtle of Jamesport, Missouri; lots of nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at the Slade – O’Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa at 10 a.m. on Monday, August 29, 2016, with Rev. Max Carmichael officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Lamoni, Iowa.
