MISS ALICE PATRICK, of Blockton, died last
Friday morning at a St.
Joseph hospital from injuries received in an
auto accident Sunday,
November 22. MISS PATRICK was out riding
with ORA GENTRY, of Grant
city, in the 40-horse power Colby touring car
formerly owned by William
Trotter, of this city, but now belonging to a
Grant City man. The owner
of the car had cautioned GENTRY against using
the car as it was of a
very complicated nature and exceedingly
difficult to manage at times.
GENTRY, however, disregarded the owner's
wishes and drove over to
Blockton and invited MISS PATRICK to take a
ride to which she
consented. A few miles out of town the car
became unmanageable on a
hill and turned turtle, pinning the young
lady beneath. Several farmers
from the neighborhood were attracted by calls
for help and they soon
succeeded in extricating the unfortunate
girl, her chest terribly
crushed by the axel under which she lay. She
was rushed immediately to
St. Joseph where she was placed in a
hospital. Internal injuries
developed and she passed away early Friday
morning.

MISS PATRICK was the daughter of MR. and MRS.
W.H. PATRICK, of
Blockton. She was a young lady of charming
personality, splendid
attainments, and was universally respected by
a multitude of friends.
She was to have been married on Thanksgiving
day to Orville Harris, of
this city. On Thursday Mr. Harris was
summoned to St. Joseph and was at
her bedside when the end came.

GENTRY was arrested soon after the tragedy
and confined in the jail at
Blockton. When he was informed that MISS
PATRICK had died, it is said
that he begged his attendant to give him a
gun that he might end his own
life. It is probable that a charge of
manslaughter will be lodged
against him.
