T. ALBAUGH was crushed to death by a horse he
was riding at his home
near Van Wert last Monday. The animal became
frightened and reared up
and fell backwards crushing MR. ALBAUGH
beneath its body. The accident
was witnessed by people near and Dr. Belding
was quickly summoned from
Van Wert to attend him. Everything possible
was done to save his life
but the injuries were too severe and he
passed away within a few hours
after the unfortunate accident occurred.

His daughter MISS LETA ALBAUGH, of LaHarpe,
Illinois, was notified and
came to Van Wert at once accompanied by her
aunt, MRS. NAOMI KERR, also
a resident of LaHarpe. The body has been
taken to Illinois, his old
home for burial. MR. ALBAUGH had resided
near Van Wert for some years.
He was well known in Leon.

A telephone message from Van Wert, Iowa, to
the Odd Fellows officials
Monday, announced that THEO ALBAUGH had been
seriously hurt by a horse
falling on him, and it was thought he would
not survive his injuries.
His sister, MRS. M.N. KERR, was notified and
left on the evening train,
accompanied by his daughter, LETA, arriving
the following morning to
learn that he had passed away at ll o'clock
Monday evening, just twelve
hours after the accident. They learned that
he was riding a horse and
leading another and at a gate the led horse
pulled back and this drew
the horse he was riding over and MR. ALBAUGH
was caught underneath, the
horn of his saddle striking him in the
stomach. No one saw the
accident. He was found unconscious. Later
in the day was able to tell
of the occurrence, but soon relapsed into
unconsciousness and did not
revive again. Medical attention was secured
at once but there was no
chance for relief.

MR. ALBAUGH owned a farm about l l/2 miles
from Van Wert where his death
occurred. The Odd Fellows went to the home
upon learning of the
accident and gave all the assistance
possible, and when his sister and
daughter came, gave them every attention and
assistance, and taking
charge of the body arranged for its shipment
here. Short religious
services were conducted by the Lodge
officials.

THEOPOLIS ALBAUGH was the youngest son, of
JESSE and FRANCIS ALBAUGH. He
was born at Canton, Illinois, and was 57
years, l month and 24 days of
age. His death occurred Monday, ll o'clock,
June 7, l9l5. He was twice
married. He leaves a daughter, LETA, of
LaHarpe, and a son, THEODORE,
of Oskaloosa, Ia., and two sisters, MRS. M.N.
KERR, residing here and
MRS. HOBLET, of Christoval, Texas.

The body arrived here Wednesday afternoon,
and was taken to the home of
his sister, where funeral services were held
Wednesday afternoon, Rev.
Yemn, officiating and burial in LaHarpe
Cemetery, the Odd Fellows in
charge.
