January 10, 1940 ~ March, 2007

Wayne Eugene "Gene" Sly, 67, of Eldora, Iowa died from natural causes on Thursday, March 29, at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center, Iowa. Following cremation, memorial services will be held at 1:30 pm on Tuesday, April 3, 2007 at Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora with Pastor Rick Schill officiating. Gene's family will be present to greet friends one hour prior to the services.

Gene was born January 10, 1940 in Lamoni, Iowa, son of Francis and Ardis (Paist) Sly. He was raised in Lamoni where he attended the Lamoni school system. Gene moved to Eldora in 1968 and worked various jobs until retiring due to health reasons. On February 14, 1980 he was married to Alison L. Baum. He enjoyed cat-fishing on the Iowa River and watching football and basketball.

Surviving is his wife, Alison of Union; children, Rick (Robin) Sly of Coralville, Sheila Sly of Coralville, Leann (Saeed) Simpson-Tarokh of Titusville, Pennsylvania, Karrie Simpson of Eagleville, Missouri, and Eric Sly of Union; sisters, Sheryl (Gene) Schmitt and Feryl (Ron) Bouchard both of Altoona; brothers, Lee (Bernice) Sly of Weleetka, Oklahoma, John Sly of Eldora, Doug Sly of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Ken (Linda) Sly of New Providence, Bob (Cindy) Sly of Bondurant, and Larry (Toni) Sly of Des Moines; and by six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Abels Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
