Obituary ~ Colleen Joy (McDowell) West
February 27, 1935 - February 11, 2016

Colleen Joy West, age 80, of Osceola, Iowa, the daughter of Floyd Theodore and Gretchen Juanita (Fessler) McDowell, was born February 27, 1935, at Grand River, Iowa. She died at the Clarke County Hospital in Osceola, Iowa on Thursday, February 11, 2016.

Colleen graduated from Van Wert High School in 1953. She started working at Banker's Life in Des Moines, Iowa. On May 29, 1955, she married Samuel Richard West in Van Wert, Iowa. They lived most of their married life together in Osceola. They were blessed with two sons, Mark and Brett. Over the years, Colleen worked at J.C. Penney's, Miller Shoes, and Pamida, all in Osceola.

Colleen was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan. She enjoyed tailgating and attending football and basketball games in Iowa City, Iowa with her family. She attended the Orange Bowl and the Capital One Bowl. She also golfed and was a very loving grandmother. She enjoyed attending the grandchildren's school activities.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, Sam in 2002, and siblings, Ray, Bob, Con, Gary, and infant Vivian McDowell.

Survivors include her children, Mark and Deb West of Iowa City, Iowa and Brett and Melissa West of Winterset, Iowa; grandchildren, Susan West of Denver, Colorado, Tyler West of Solon, Iowa, Jack West and Jaya West, both of Winterset, Iowa; siblings, Orville and Nevalee McDowell of Osceola, Iowa, Darwin and Durine McDowell of Van Wert, Iowa, and Cindy and Roger Vandel of Arvada, Colorado; sisters-in-law, Joyce McDowell of Marshalltown, Iowa and Cece McDowell of Osceola, Iowa; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

A memorial service will held at the Slade - O'Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 13, 2016, with Rev. Terry D. Roberts officiating. Burial will be in the Van Wert Cemetery, Van Wert, Iowa at a later date.

A memorial fund has been established by the Family.
