Decatur County Journal
November 5, l9l4

MRS. ROSA WOODS-COWLES was born at Sanduska,
Mo., February 6, l836, and
departed this life at the home of her
daughter, MRS. J.T. ROBISON,
October l3, l9l4, at the age of 75 years, 8
months and 6 days. She was
united in marriage to H.A. COWLES, August l9,
l860
(date hard to read??) who was called from her
side by death July 29,
l9l4. To this union were born seven
children, all of whom survive her
but one who died in infancy. She leaves to
mourn their loss three
brothers, A.T. WOODS, of Custer, Neb.; W.M.
WOODS, of Oklahoma; L.W.
WOODS, of Texas County, Missouri; one sister,
MRS. KATTIE FISCUS, of
Freemont, Neb.; six children, MRS. LAURA
GRIFFIN, of Saline, Mo.; MRS.
NELLIE ROBISON, of Leon; AUSTIN and EMMETT,
of Pleasanton; WINNIE, of
Tulare, Calif.; OTIS, of Jersey City, N.J.;
also nineteen
grandchildren. These all have the sympathy
of the entire community in
the loss of a loving sister, mother and
grandmother, who always took a
deep interest in their welfare.

MRS. COWLES was highly respected by all who
knew her and leaves a large
circle of friends who with her loved ones,
did all that kind hands could
do during her last illness. She was
converted at the age of l4 and
joined the Methodist Church at the age of l4
years and has ever lived a
true devoted Christian life, hence she was
ready when the Master called.

The funeral was held from the New Salem
Baptist Church on Wednesday
afternoon of last week, conducted by Rev.
F.F. Partridge, of Davis
City. Appropriate music was furnished by the
Pleasanton Choir. Despite
the inclemency of the weather, a goodly
number of surrounding neighbors
were present to show their respect for the
departed. By the side of her
husband and close by the little grave of her
granddaughter, HAZEL ANITA
COWLES, which was made September 25, deceased
was laid to rest until the
resurrection morn.
