ALFRED K. KELLER

ALFRED K. KELLER, son of HENRY and ELLEN
KELLER, was born in Green
County, Tenn., May 22, l827, and passed away
at his home in Woodland, on
October 26, l9l4, being 87 years, 5 months
and 4 days old. He was
married to SARAH ELIZABETH COFFMAN on
September 23, l852, at Spencer,
Owen County, Indiana, and to this union were
born l0 children, six girls
and four boys; five have passed beyond and
five are left with their
mother to mourn the departure of the loving
companion and father. All
the children except one son, THOMAS, who
lives in Kansas, were at the
bedside during the last sickness to minister
to the father and comfort
the mother. There
are also twenty-six grandchildren and fifteen
great grandchildren.

MR. KELLER was converted and joined the
Methodist Church in Indiana at
the age of 2l years and lived a consistent
Christian all his life. When
he was l9 years old he volunteered and
enlisted in the Mexican war and
served one year. He also volunteered and
enlisted in the Civil War in
August, l862, and served as a private in
Company B, 97th Regiment of
Indiana Infantry, for three years being
honorably discharged at Crystal
Springs, D.C., on June 9, l865, while holding
the grade of sergeant. He
was always a lover of his country and flag
and ever ready to offer his
service to defend them. He moved with his
family from Indiana to Iowa
in September l870, making the long journey
with team and wagon and
located on the farm three miles east of
Woodland and lived there with
his family continuously until four years ago
when he and his wife
retired from active life and moved to the
home in Woodland, where he
died.

Funeral services were held at the Union
Church Wednesday at ll o'clock
by Rev. C.K. Corkill, Pastor of the M.E.
Church at Lineville, and the
body laid to rest in the Lentz Cemetery, a
large concourse of relatives
and friends were in attendance which shows
the esteem in which he was
held in this community and heartfelt sympathy
is extended to the
bereaved companion, children and other
relatives in this sad hour.
