Donna Jean McBroom, age 83, of Lacon, Illinois formerly Humeston, Iowa, the daughter of Lloyd Everett and Gladys Izetta (Bailey) James, was born January 21, 1932, in Osceola, Iowa. She died at the Methodist Unity Point Medical Center of Illinois in Peoria, Illinois on March 30, 2015.

On November 21, 1948, Donna was united in marriage to Cloyd Clifton McBroom in Princeton, Missouri. They were blessed with four children, Danny, Linda, Janet, and Gary. In the early years, Donna and Cloyd lived and farmed in Iowa, in 1965, after 17 years, they moved to Missouri. They stayed there less than two years, moving on to Illinois in 1967. Donna worked as a certified nurses assistant at Parkhill Nursing Home in Chillicothe, Illinois and at Fireside Nursing Home in Peoria, Illinois. In 1989, they retired and moved back to Humeston, Iowa. In 2013, Donna's health was failing so they were drawn back to Illinois to be closer to their family.

Over the years, Donna and Cloyd enjoyed traveling. They have driven to all 48 continental states in the United States and to both Mexico and Canada. They loved camping and fishing. Donna enjoyed puzzles, scratch off lottery tickets, sewing dolls, reading, and baking. She was a very good cook. Above all, she enjoyed her family, especially spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Preceding Donna in death were her parents; sister Virginia Garner; and son, Danny Gale McBroom. Survivors include her husband, Cloyd McBroom of Lacon, Illinois; children, Janet and Jim Forsythe and Linda Monier, all of Lacon, and Gary and Rashell McBroom of Chillicothe, Illinois; daughter-in-law, Barbara Longwell of Springfield, Missouri; 13 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; sisters, Lois Fortune of Corydon, Iowa and Joann Sullivan of Osceola, Iowa; and other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services will be held at the Slade - O'Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 3, 2015 with Pastor Rick Hawkins officiating. Burial will be in the Metier Cemetery, near Weldon, Iowa. Memorials may be given to the American Heart Associating in Donna's memory.

Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home of Leon and Lamoni were in charge of arrangements.
