July 9, l9l4LOTTIE, the nine-year-old daughter of MR. and
MRS. GEORGE WRIGHT, of
near Ridgeway, Mo., was burned to death in a
fire that completely
destroyed the residence of BILL LARSON, her
uncle, where she was
visiting Friday night of last week. The child had gone to the home of her uncle
for a few days visit and on
the evening of her tragic death she had gone
upstairs alone and it is
supposed found some matches with which she
began playing.
The other members of the family had retired
and were awakened by the
fire. The alarm spread quickly and soon a
number of people were on the
scene. The family, with the exception of
their little guest, had
escaped to the yard when it was found that
the child was still
upstairs. She was discovered in a window and
a feather bed was spread
out and she was urged to jump. She seemed
afraid to do so and while
those below were trying to urge her to jump
from the window, the roof
fell in and she was carried down with the
ruins. The whole neighborhood is grief stricken over
the sad death of the
little girl, and her parents and relatives
are prostrated over the
tragic end of the child. The child is a
niece of MRS. C.O. WHISLER.
MR. WHISLER formerly conducted the store now
owned by H. Stoner in Leon.-------------------------------------------------------------------
