Decatur County Journal
August l3, l9l4

CLAY GENTRY, l4 year-old-son of MR. and MRS.
FRANK GENTRY, living 6
miles northwest of this city, died Sunday
night, as a result of injuries
he received that morning when he was thrown
from a horse.

CLAY and some neighbor boys were riding
horses along the road near the
WM. GOODIN farm. They were going at pretty
good speed, as boys will,
when a cow ran out into the road in front of
them. The horse GENTRY was
riding struck her and fell. CLAY was thrown
to the ground with much
force, and the horse rolled over him. He was
quickly taken home and Dr.
Powell of this city called, but nothing could
be done to save his life.
He was badly mashed and had received internal
injuries. He lived twelve
hours after the accident, but did not regain
consciousness.

The accident was a great shock to the people
in the community where he
resides. CLAY was an excellent young man and
well liked by all. He was
born and reared in that community. All
extend sympathy to the bereaved
parents.

Funeral services were held at the St. Paul
Church Monday afternoon,
being conducted by Rev. J.H. Fanning.
Interment was in the cemetery
there.
