VAN WERT NEWS:

Our city and community was shocked and
saddened on Sunday morning when
news reached us of the death of CHARLES
IMHOFF. Although he had been in
poor health for several weeks his death came
as a shock to us all.
CHARLES' entire life was spent in and near
Van Wert, until a couple of
years ago he moved near Leon. He was well
known and loved by all. He
has been for many years a Christian, having
given his heart to Christ
while quite young and has lived a consistent
upright life, and his
example is such that his family will be proud
to follow. His death
leaves desolate the home where love and
happiness reigned. He leaves an
aged mother, who for many years has made
their home hers, a loving wife
and four children, CLYDE, MARY, GEORGE and
HELEN, to mourn the loss of a
son, husband and father.

The funeral services were held at the Shy
Church on Monday at ll
o'clock, conducted by Elijah Tillotson, a
life-long friend of the
family. The interment was made in the
cemetery near the church.
The sorrowing family has the heartfelt
sympathy of scores of friends in
this their darkest hour.

When our earthly life is ended

And our earthly mission
done,

We shall go across the river
at the

Setting of the sun.

And in that celestial city, in
those

fields so bright and fair,

We shall meet those gone
before us;

We shall know each other
there.

Yes we'll meet them in that
city,

that is just across the
sand.

And our hearts will thrill
with rapture

When they take us by the
hand

And in that bright home
eternal,

(Pain and death ne'er enters
there.)

We will meet with many a loved
one;

We shall know each other
there,

Do not tell us that our loved
ones

Lose their earthly memories
quite,

Tho they sing among the
angels,

In the realms so fair and
bright.

Oh, I know that they will know
us

Tho their angel robes they
wear;

They will bid us "Welcome
Over"

We shall know each other
there.

CHARLEY A. IMHOFF, son of MR. and MRS. PETER
IMHOFF, was born in Wapello
County, Iowa, May 23, l863, and died at his
home in Decatur County,
Iowa, at 4 o'clock p.m., August 2, l9l4, 5
miles northwest of Leon.

His father and mother were born in
Pennsylvania and moved from there to
Iowa, where the deceased was born. From
there they moved to Decatur
County, Iowa, and settled on a farm 3 miles
south of Van Wert. Here
CHARLEY grew to manhood and was married to
MATTIE E. SMITH. To this
union were born six children, FRANK, CLYDE,
MARY, GEORGE, HELEN and
ANNA; the oldest and youngest preceded the
father to the better world.
CHARLES, as we always called him, was a good
citizen and father. He had
his faults, as we all do, but let us all
cover them with charity. He
leaves a wife and four children and an aged
mother to mourn their loss.

The funeral was preached by the writer, at
the Union Church at the Shy
Cemetery, Monday, August 3, at ll o'clock,
where he was laid to await
the resurrection morn. May God bless his
wife and children; also his
aged mother.

--ELIJAH
TILLOTSON.
