Margaret Lindsey, 82, of Leon, Iowa, a long-time member of Iowa Press Women and a former IPW president and "Woman of Achievement," died August 27 in Leon.

She began her journalism career at the Leon Journal-Reporter and continued working there until the week of her death. The Journal-Reporter was owned originally by her husband's parents, then by Margaret and her husband, William. At the time of her death, it was managed by Margaret and her two sons, Bill and Gary.

She was the first woman to be elected president of the Leon Chamber of Commerce; was a charter and longtime member of Leon B.P.W. and received that organization's "Woman of Achievement" award; was a 62-year member of P.E.O., serving as president and international convention delegate; and in 1998 was grand marshal of the Leon 4th of July parade.

Margaret Dale Lindsey was born near Leon in 1916 and lived in the community her entire life except during World War II, when she lived in Fort Worth, Texas, while her husband was in the military.

In addition to journalism, she had worked as a country school teacher and as a portrait color artist.

[Interment was made at Leon Cemetery.]
