CHESTER KENNETH JOHNSTON, son of JAMES PERRY and GRACE PAULONA MCKEE JOHNSTON, was born in Decatur County, Iowa on March 4, 1921 and succumbed to cancer Oct. 4, 1983 at the Decatur County Hospital in Leon, Iowa, age 62.

On February 2, 1942 he was united in marriage to VIOLET MAY MORINE of Leon. To this union three children were born: CAROLYN KAY, DEBRA MAY and KEVIN GENE.

CHESTER worked for the County and State Departments in Leon until he felt the call of God to full-time ministry. He became an ordained elder in the Church of the Nazarene and pastured in Leon. Bussey, Ottumwa and Keokuk. Because of illness he had to leave the full-time ministry in 1969 and thereafter did supply pasturing in the community.

He then became employed by the Keokuk School District and worked there until spring of 1982. Recently, he and his wife moved back to Leon.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors are his widow, VIOLET; two daughters; CAROLYN MILLER and husband, PAUL, Des Moines; DEBORA WOODWORTH and husband, STAN, Keokuk; son KEVIN GENE, Des Moines; brother DARRELL JOHNSTON, LEON; four grandchildren: DANNY, MELODY, DARRON and DUSTIN; nieces, nephews; other relatives and friends.

He has had a busy life fulfilling the roles of a son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, nephew, pastor, school bus driver and friend to many.

[Interment was made at Leon Cemetery.]
